Visitation Policies
GENERAL GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES
1. Davis Medical Center allows one support person, family member, friend, or other individual to be present with the patient for emotional support during the course of hospital stay or outpatient visit, unless the individual’s presence infringes on other’s rights, safety, or is medically or therapeutically contraindicated.
2. All other visitors are permitted on the nursing units during published visiting hours for that unit (times follow). At all other times, visitors are asked to wait in the main lobby, or waiting areas on the patient care unit.
3. The Main and MarketPlace Entrance Doors are locked at 8 PM. After 8 pm, the only entrance into the hospital is at the Emergency Department. Visitors are requested to stop at the reception desk so that the appropriate nursing unit can be notified. Receptionist will call Security to escort visitors to designated unit.
4. Visitors are to request permission from the nurse prior to bringing any food to the patient.
DEFINITION OF “SUPPORT PERSON”
• A spouse, domestic partner (including same sex domestic partner), another family member or friend.
YOUNG VISITORS
Children under twelve are discouraged from visiting. The minimum age of visitors is determined on an individual basis, considering the diagnosis of the patient as well as the roommate (when applicable).
VISITATION SCHEDULE BY UNIT
- Day Surgery Unit
- 2 visitors at a time in both pre-op and post-op services.
- Emergency Department
- One support person, family member, friend, or other individual may be present with the patient for emotional support during the course of hospital stay or outpatient visit, unless the individual’s presence infringes on other’s rights, safety, or is medically or therapeutically contraindicated. The individual may or may not be the patient’s surrogate decision maker or legally authorized representative.
- Two visitors at a time may visit with patient, one of those being the designated support person.
- Parents or designated support person will be allowed to stay with pediatric patients at all times.
- Family Birthing Center
- Visiting hours are from 10 am - 8 pm
- Quiet Time is set aside to allow the patient to rest and new families to bond. During this time, visitors will be asked to leave a message at the Nurses Station. Quiet Time is 2 – 4 PM, and 10:30 PM – 6 AM
- All visitors must be at least 14 years old, with the exception of siblings.
- Two designated visitors are permitted during the labor process – this includes the father of the baby or significant other. The 2 designated visitors may stay overnight during the labor process. Following the birth of the newborn, only one visitor/support person is permitted to stay overnight for emotional support during the course of hospital stay.
- Following the birth of the newborn, visitors may rotate but only 2 per patient. (this number excludes siblings, and father of baby or significant other) •
- Sibling visitation may occur following the birth of the newborn, siblings may not stay overnight.
- All visitors will be allowed access through a secure entry intercom system. Visitors/support persons may come and go only during established visiting hours.
- Visitors or siblings with known or suspected infections will be asked not to visit on the Family Birthing Unit.
- Visitation guidelines may change at the discretion of the provider or nurse.
- COVID visitation guidelines will be based on the circumstances at that time.
- North 2 and Clinical Decision Unit (CDU)
- Visiting hours are from 8 AM – 8PM • One support person, family member, friend, or other individual may be present with the patient for emotional support during the course of hospital stay or outpatient visit, unless the individual’s presence infringes on other’s rights, safety, or is medically or therapeutically contraindicated. The individual may or may not be the patient’s surrogate decision maker or legally authorized representative. No opposite sex support persons can stay in semi-private rooms during the night.
- All other visitors may visit during specified hours only. Limit of 2 visitors in the room at a time for non-covid patients.
- Parents or designated support person will be allowed to stay with pediatric patients at all times.
- Covid patients are allowed one support person per day.
- Operating Room and Day Surgery Procedure Room
- Visitors are NOT permitted in the operating room or day surgery procedure room. With permission of the attending physician, the husband or significant other may be allowed in the operating room for surgical delivery of babies. Intensive Care Unit
- Visiting hours are restricted to the following times to allow for the reporting from one shift to another. 7 AM to 8 AM and 7 PM to 8 PM • All visitors must be at least 12 years old to visit a patient in the ICU.
- All visitors will be allowed access through a secure entry intercom system.
- Special situations may arise that cause visiting hours to change.
- One support person, family member, friend, or other individual may be present with the patient for emotional support during the course of hospital stay or outpatient visit, unless the individual’s presence infringes on other’s rights, safety, or is medically or therapeutically contraindicated. The individual may or may not be the patient’s surrogate decision maker or legally authorized representative.
- All other visitors may visit two at a time, during the specified hours only.
- Parents or designated support person will be allowed to stay with pediatric patients.
- Laurel Place (Gero-Psych)
- Laurel Place has daily visiting hours from 12:30 PM -1:30 PM, and 5:30PM to 6:30 PM.
- Upon entry to the unit, visitors must sign the Visitor’s Registry Log Book.
- All visitations take place in the Day Room.
- Handbags, cell phones, weapons, recording devices or cameras are not allowed in Laurel Place. Items must be secured in the visitor’s vehicle. Staff cannot assume responsibility for personal items brought onto the unit.
- Only 2 visitors are permitted at a time.
- Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
- Special accommodations can be approved by the Program Director regarding visitation.
