WCMH to Host Healthy Holiday Cooking Class

November 01, 2018

Webster Springs, WV – Webster County Memorial Hospital is hosting a Healthy Holiday Cooking Class which will provide simple strategies to enjoy the holidays and avoid overeating.

“On average we gain one to two pounds during the holiday season,” said Jim Severino, RDN, LD, CDE, registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator for Davis Medical Center.  “Although this isn’t a drastic increase, persons may avoid weight gain through thoughtful eating strategies.  The Healthy Holiday Cooking Class will cover some of these simple strategies.”

The class will be held Wednesday, November 14, at 5 pm in the cafeteria at Webster County Memorial Hospital.  It is free and open to the public.

Severino said the class includes live cooking demonstrations, taste testing and recipes to take home and enjoy during the holiday.  Each attendee will receive a special gift and be registered for a door prize.

“Parties and celebrations tend to serve up large, buffet-style meals.  If we are considerate of the food choices and portion size, we can enjoy these meals while still maintaining a healthful eating plan,” said Severino.

Registration is not required.  For more information call 304.637.3343.
