Laurel Place appoints new Program Director and Licensed Social Worker

ELKINS, WV – Laurel Place, an inpatient geriatric behavioral health program at Davis Medical Center, announced the appointment of Melissa “Missy” Kilgore as Program Director, and welcomes Sarah L. Newcome, LSW, to the caregiving team as a Licensed Social Worker.
“We’re very excited to welcome Missy and Sarah to Laurel Place,” said Davis Health System Director of Nursing Kathy Sturm, R.N. “They bring a breadth of experience to our team in providing specialized care to seniors.”
Laurel Place is a 20-bed program for patients 55 and over with acute psychiatric or behavioral disorders. It is designed for short-term stays, and serves individuals coming from private residences, assisted living centers and nursing homes. The unit is accredited by The Joint Commission.
As Program Director Kilgore ensures the intensive inpatient program meets Psychiatric Medical Care (PMC) standards in the areas of staff performance, quality care and regulatory compliance. She brings more than 15 years of clinical experience in working with the senior population, specializing in geriatric and long-term care, memory care (Alzheimer’s Disease) and behavioral health. She has held a variety of roles in health care administration, nursing and hospice.
Sarah L. Newcome, LSW has over 15 years’ experience in the field of social work with distinct knowledge in geriatric discharge planning and the coordination of patient care. In her position with Laurel Place, she will be responsible for providing assessments and case management to patient and families.
“My passion is working to help seniors, and their families, who suffer from conditions of behavioral health. Programs, like laurel Place, can help and make a real difference in the quality of life for these individuals,” said Newcome.
