Holiday Cooking Class for Families with Diabetes
November 11, 2019
Davis Medical Center is hosting a Healthy Holiday Cooking Class which will provide simple strategies to enjoy the holidays and avoid overeating.
“On average we gain one to two pounds during the holiday season,” said Jim Severino, RDN, LD, CDE, registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator for Davis Medical Center. “Although this isn’t a drastic increase, persons may avoid weight gain through thoughtful eating strategies. The Healthy Holiday Cooking Class will cover some simple strategies.”
The class will be held Thursday, November 14, at 5 pm in the cafeteria overflow at Davis Medical Center. It is free and open to the public.
Severino said the class includes live cooking demonstrations, taste testing and diabetes friendly recipes to take home and enjoy during the holiday.
“Parties and celebrations tend to serve up large, buffet-style meals. If we are considerate of the food choices and portion size, we can enjoy these meals while still maintaining a healthful eating plan,” said Severino.
