DMC Plans Healthy Heart Event Feb.12
January 31, 2019
Elkins, W. Va. – February is American Heart Month – an important month for all Americans, and here at home in West Virginia, where 165,000 people have coronary heart disease. Davis Medical Center (DMC) wants to help you take charge of your health by offering a free Healthy heart educational forum on Tuesday, February 12, from 5-7 PM in the ground floor cafeteria overflow.
“We’re providing insight and guidance from experts at Davis Medical Center on how to achieve better heart health,” said Mindy Parsons, RN, Clinical Charge Nurse for DMC Cardiac Rehab. “Guests can learn about heart disease and risk factors, medications, diet and much more.”
The program features, Abbas Ali, MD, MS, FACC, a clinical provider from the West Virginia University Medicine Heart & Vascular Institute. Other panelists include Megan Daft, PharmD; dietician Sonya Phares-Weiford, RDN; and Mindy Parsons, BA, ASN, RN. In addition to hearing from the panel of experts, you’ll have time to ask questions, enjoy heart-friendly refreshments and a take home bag packed with information, tools, and recipes. Attendees are also encouraged to bring all medications for any questions one may have for the pharmacist.
Each year communities and health professionals across the nation target February as a time to raise awareness to fight heart disease, the number one killer of women. Heart disease claims the lives of more women each year than all forms of cancer combined.
Reservations are strongly recommended by calling the Cardiac Rehab Center at 304.637.3623.
“We are committed to helping our communities have better health by empowering them with information,” added Parsons, RN. “We hope many people will take advantage of this valuable, free opportunity.”
