DMC and Broaddus Hospital Receive National Recognition for Performance Leadership

November 15, 2018

Elkins, WV  - November 15 is National Rural Health Day, and both Davis Medical Center and Broaddus Hospital have been recognized by The Chartis Center of Rural Health and the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) for overall excellence in Outcomes and Patient Perspective, reflecting top quartile performance among all rural hospitals in the nation.

“Recognition as top performing rural facilities illustrates the value that Davis Health System brings to local communities,” said Davis Health System CEO Vance Jackson, FACHE.  “We are demonstrating our excellence in securing better patient outcomes and increasing patient satisfaction, and compared to the nation’s other rural hospitals we’re doing quite well.”

The Hospital Strength INDEX is a comprehensive and objective assessment of rural hospital performance.  It measures performance across sixty Indicators and eight Pillars of performance.  Critical Access Hospitals and Rural & Community Hospitals receive an INDEX score which is a percentile rank of aggregate performance across the pillars spanning Market, Value, and Finance.

Broaddus Hospital performed in the top tier nationally for performance in Patient Perspective.  Davis Medical Center achieved excellence in Patient Outcomes.  Vance Jackson, CEO said the Health System has been engaged in strategies to improve processes that positively affect patient health, patient experiences and care efficiency.

“Value-based care is a healthcare methodology that aligns patient care to hospital reimbursement.  Davis Health has been proactive in investing in the processes, skill sets, and care programs that will make us successful in the value-based environment. The result is that we are better prepared than many other community hospitals across the nation, and we’re seeing conclusive gains in data reporting like the Hospital Strength INDEX,” Jackson added.

In March 2018, Davis Medical Center was named one of the Top 20 Rural Community Hospitals in the nation by the National Rural Health Association.  DMC outperformed numerous rural hospitals nationwide in that evaluation done by the Chartis Center for Rural Health using iVantage health Analytics.

The Performance Leadership Awards are determined each year using iVantage Health Analytics’ Hospital Strength INDEX®, the industry’s most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural hospital performance. Leveraging data from public data sources, the INDEX aggregates data from 50 rural-relevant metrics across eight pillars to derive a single overall percentile rating for all Critical Access Hospitals and Rural & Community Hospitals. The Performance Leadership Awards spotlight top performance in the areas of Quality, Outcomes and Patient Perspective.

“National Rural Health Day provides the ideal opportunity to spotlight the power of rural and recognize those facilities excelling in Quality, Patient Satisfaction and Outcomes,” said Michael Topchik, National Leader, The Chartis Center for Rural Health. “We’re thrilled to partner with NOSORH on this program and commend this year’s recipients who are working diligently to provide quality care within their communities.”

The National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) was established in 1995 to assist State Offices of Rural Health in their efforts to improve access to, and the quality of, health care for America’s 61 million rural citizens. NOSORH enhances the capacity of SORHs to do this by supporting the development of state and community rural health leaders; creating and facilitating state, regional and national partnerships that foster information sharing and spur rural health-related programs/activities; and enhancing access to quality healthcare services in rural communities.
