Davis Medical Center warns residents about local phone scam using “Caller ID Spoofing”

We are aware of two recent incidents where a local resident received a call that appears to be coming from Davis Medical Center -- the caller inquires about and requests personal credit card information.  Davis Medical Center does not solicit or manage any credit card products so if you receive one of these calls do not provide any personal information to them.

This form of consumer scam targets residents and community businesses, government, hospitals and others through “spoofing” which makes it appear as though the call is coming from a local source.  Generally, the caller ID comes up as the name of a local business, when in fact the caller has no association whatsoever with it.

Unfortunately, preying on the residents of small communities is happening more frequently.  The best response is to never give out personal information if you are confused or suspicious of the caller.
