Davis Medical Center warns residents about a phone scam using “Caller ID Spoofing”

We are aware of several incidents where a local resident received a call that appears to be coming from Davis Medical Center with the caller claiming to be with Medicare.  The caller asked one resident if they ‘had been having back pain’, and requested personal health information. The caller ID shows up as “Davis Medical Center”.

Please be extremely cautious when people ask for your financial or personal health information over the phone.  If you are unsure about the legitimacy of a call, hang up.  People can call a Patient Financial Advocate at 304.637.3125 to find out if the health system is trying to get in touch with them.    If someone receives one of these calls, they can report it to Davis Medical Center’s Patient Representative at 304.637.3773.

Caller ID spoofing is a manipulation of the caller ID feature that allows a scammer to disguise their true identity.  In this case the caller is disguising himself as a representative of Davis Medical Center and/or Medicare.
