Broaddus Hospital to Celebrate Pulmonary Week with Free Screenings
March 12, 2018
Philippi, WV – National Pulmonary Rehabilitation Week is March 11-17 and Broaddus Hospital is inviting the community to learn more about pulmonary health. On Thursday, March 15 from 9 am until 4 pm representatives from Broaddus Hospital’s Pulmonary Rehab Department will host an event offering education and free pulmonary assessments for the public.
“West Virginia has a large population of persons suffering from breathing problems including Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD),” said Haley Grogg, RRT. “Our goal is to help people understand that there are simple yet important steps patients can take to live healthier with their lung disease, whether it be asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis, or any condition that can affect a patient’s lungs.”
Broaddus Hospital’s Pulmonary Rehab program improves quality of life to persons with lung disease and COPD through education in areas such as exercise, psychosocial, nutrition and activities of daily living. Certified Respiratory Therapists, like Grogg, provide Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) using a spirometer. Spirometry is a non-invasive test used to diagnose COPD and other lung diseases and determine the severity of the disease.
The March 15 event will be held in the main lobby of Broaddus Hospital and is open to the public. Refreshments and door prizes will be provided.
