Better Sleep Center in Elkins Receives Program Accreditation

December 27, 2018

Elkins, WV – the Davis Medical Center Better Sleep Center in Elkins recently received program accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).

“The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates the Better Sleep Center on meeting the high standards required to earn accreditation as a sleep disorders center,” said Dr. Douglas Kirsch, AASM president. “Better Sleep Center is an important resource to the local medical community and will provide academic and scientific value in addition to the highest quality care for patients suffering from sleep disorders.”

The Center provides diagnosis and treatment for people of all ages who experience problems with poor sleep.

“Sleep disorders can affect a person’s overall health and quality of life.  They contribute to unsafe driving, and increase the risk of having other health problems,” said Paul Grindle, RPSGT, and Sleep Technician at the Better Sleep Center.

“We provide the diagnosis and treatment that can improve sleep health.  Having the AASM certification is important because we know it supports us in offering the region’s highest standards of care,” he added.

To receive accreditation for a five-year period, the Better Sleep Center had to meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM.  These standards address core areas such as personnel, facility and equipment, policies and procedures, data acquisition, patient care, and quality assurance.  Additionally, the sleep center’s goals had to be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.

Today there are more than 2,600 AASM-accredited sleep centers across the country.

The Better Sleep Center is directed by Chandra Matadeen-Ali, MD, and is located across from Davis Medical Center at 911 Gorman Ave, suite 301.

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine is a professional medical society for clinicians, researchers, and other health care providers in the field of sleep medicine. As the national accrediting body for sleep disorders centers, the AASM improves sleep health and promotes high quality, patient-centered care through advocacy, education, strategic research, and practice standards.
