INTEGRATED MEDICINE - INTEGRATED PRIMARY CARE

What is Integrative Medicine?

This approach to health care blends conventional medicine (including use of drugs and high-tech techniques, when appropriate) with evidence - based, natural, less invasive therapies (e.g. dietary change, meditation, acupuncture, yoga, herbal medicine and therapeutic massage.)

It highlights a patient - practitioner relationship that offers personalized, participatory care while emphasizing healing of the whole person - mind, body, and spirit - in the context of our relationships and social environment.

In addition:

* Integrated care offers treatment for ailments, but is also very attentive to the broader concepts of health promotion (e.g. lifestyle counseling and dietary guidance) and the prevention of illness (i.e. eliminating ailment causes or increasing resistance to disease) is fundamental.

* Patients understand the importance of self - care techniques that may require lifestyle changes, rather than relying entirely on the health care system to "fix" the patient.

Our integrated primary care offers a specialized service where medical providers and behavioral health clinicians work together as a team, focusing on providing patient - centered care in a medical setting.  Our approach of integrated medicine treats immediate health problems as well as go beyond the treatment of symptoms to address all the causes of the illness.

At Davis Medical Center, Dr. Scott works as a primary care behaviorist with advanced training and experiences in the field of mental/behavioral health and also as a team partner with medical providers, including our OBGYN service to pregnant women who have a history of addiction.  Dr. Scott's main concentration is on the diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders that include depression, manic depression, anxiety, and substance abuse disorders.  Dr. Scott works to connect the medical condition to mental/behavioral health problems, consulting with our medical providers to help address the mental health problems of people who also have heatlh concerns.

Senior Life Solutions

Depression and Anxiety aren't healthy at any age. The issues affecting seniors are uniquely challenging. Declining physical ability, loss of loved ones and isolation can lead to depression, anxiety and other issues. But problems like these are not normal at any age. It can be hard to recognize an older adult in need. It may also be difficult to get them to accept assistance. People who have been healthy and independent for such a long time can often resist help with the emotional and physical changes they know are taking place.

Let Us Help You Feel Better

Senior Life Solutions is an intensive outpatient counseling program which addresses the emotional and behavioral health of adults over the age of 65. Through a combination of therapies, education and wellness programs, Senior Life Solutions assists older adults who are experiencing depression, anxiety, have recently experienced a traumatic event and a host of many other symptoms.

With this program, patients can discover how to handle life's challenges and find joy once again. The program works to improve the emotional stability and increase general functioning, as well as help patients identify, develop and increase the use of effective coping skills by emphasizing the existing strengths of the individual and/or family system.
