Where your care counts
Cancer prevention
Scientists
believe that most cancers are caused by a string of genetic mutations that
develop over a person's lifetime. At Davis Health System, we think that’s
a good reason for everyone to follow cancer-screening guidelines.
It also makes sense to avoid environmental and lifestyle risk factors that might promote cancer, especially if you already have an increased risk, whatever its basis/
Among the risk factors that could get you in trouble are:
- An unhealthy diet, smoking or lack of exercise.
- Excessive exposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays.
- DNA-altering viruses, such as hepatitis and human papilloma virus (HPV—which is associated with cervical cancer).
- Toxins in the environment, such as secondhand smoke, chemicals or other pollutants.
